to jim, drums are amazing!
mock tortoiseshell, shiny chrome,
screws, pedals, skins and cymbals...
all with a palpitating potential,
for boom, crash and burn..
elvin’s preferred weapon.
whereas to me, they’re mundane,
a means to an end, tools of trade
it’s jim’s drawing that‘s amazing….
all raw imagination, whack!
straight on the paper, no hang-ups,
preconceptions, all pure aesthetics.
wild whorls, a squiderly reef,
a bike, a ship, a whale
or outboard motor,
a huge superstructure,
ladders, rigging, a solitary diver…
and in the sky……
is it bird, insects, or pirates?

the inexorable groove

oh! And standards too,
and the chic, schmuck city
with an empty robin's nest;
